Privacy Policy

SamNav does not require accounts, sell visitor data, or use advertising trackers.

SamNav is an independent website created to help visitors navigate, search, and explore publicly available writing and related materials. SamNav does not require user accounts, does not sell visitor data, and does not use advertising or retargeting trackers.

Effective date: July 18, 2026.

1. Information We Collect

SamNav may collect limited information about your visit and use of the website, including:

  • Pages viewed
  • Links clicked
  • Referring pages or websites
  • Browser type
  • Device type
  • Operating system
  • Approximate location, such as country or region
  • Date and time of visit
  • Search or navigation activity on the website
  • Basic technical information used for security, analytics, debugging, and site performance

If you contact SamNav directly, we may also collect the information you choose to provide, such as your name, email address, and message contents.

2. Analytics

SamNav uses privacy-focused website analytics to understand how the site is used and how it can be improved.

Analytics may be used to understand:

  • Which pages are most visited
  • How visitors arrive at the site
  • Which browsers, devices, and screen sizes are commonly used
  • Whether pages are loading or behaving correctly
  • Which navigation paths are useful or confusing
  • General traffic trends over time

SamNav does not use analytics to sell data, target advertisements, retarget visitors, or build personal profiles.

3. Ask Sam Questions and AI Processing

When you use Ask Sam, the question you enter is sent to OpenAI to create a query embedding. SamNav uses that embedding together with a local keyword index to retrieve a short list of potentially relevant posts. The question and that shortlist of public-safe metadata and semantic dossiers are then sent to OpenAI so that a reading route can be generated. SamNav does not send full post bodies with these live requests.

Before a route is generated, the question may be sent to OpenAI's moderation service to detect content that the feature should not process. Questions that trigger the configured safety policy are rejected without generating a route.

Ask Sam questions are not included in SamNav's ordinary analytics events or application logs. The question field is excluded from session replay capture. The server may keep a short-lived in-memory response cache keyed by a one-way hash of the normalized question, model, prompt version, and catalog version so repeated requests can reuse a route without storing the raw question as the cache key.

To limit automated abuse, SamNav may use Cloudflare Turnstile and a distributed rate limiter. Turnstile may process network, browser, device, and challenge information according to Cloudflare's policies. The rate limiter uses a one-way, optionally secret-keyed representation of a client network address and stores only the counter needed to enforce a short request window; it does not store the submitted question.

SamNav requests that OpenAI not store route-planning responses by using the API's store: false setting. OpenAI still processes the submitted question to provide moderation, embedding, and route-planning services, subject to OpenAI's applicable API data controls and policies. Do not submit sensitive, confidential, or personal information through Ask Sam.

4. Session Replay and Interaction Analytics

SamNav may use session replay or similar interaction analytics to understand how visitors use the website.

Session replay may record or reconstruct website interactions such as:

  • Pages visited
  • Clicks and taps
  • Scrolling
  • Mouse movement
  • Navigation paths
  • Browser and device information
  • On-page interactions
  • On-page interactions outside fields specifically excluded or masked by SamNav

Session replay is used to improve usability, fix broken or confusing parts of the site, diagnose technical problems, and understand how people move through the website.

SamNav does not use session replay for advertising, retargeting, identity profiling, or monitoring visitors across other websites.

SamNav is not intended to collect sensitive personal information. Visitors should not submit sensitive information through the website. Where possible, fields that may contain personal or sensitive information should be masked, excluded, or otherwise protected from session replay capture.

The Ask Sam question field is specifically excluded from session replay capture.

5. Cookies and Similar Technologies

SamNav may use cookies, local storage, session storage, pixels, scripts, or similar technologies for basic website functionality, analytics, security, performance monitoring, and usability improvement.

These technologies may help remember technical settings, measure traffic, understand site behavior, prevent abuse, or improve the visitor experience.

SamNav does not use these technologies for third-party advertising or retargeting.

6. How We Use Information
